How it works

What do I need to run a 9ONE0 Check?

Their phone number. 9ONE0 doesn't search by name, email or address. If several people have been linked to the number, you pick the one you mean by name, age and city.

Is 9ONE0 available in every state?

Not yet. 9ONE0 can’t show results for residents of Oregon, Connecticut, New Jersey and Vermont yet. If the person you check has a current address on record in one of those states, no report is shown and nothing is charged. You can use 9ONE0 and The Vault wherever you live.

How long does a 9ONE0 Check take?

Usually 10 to 45 seconds. We ask a licensed public records provider and CourtListener at the same time. A person with many addresses, court filings or business records takes longer than someone with a short record.

What if I check the same number again?

You get the report you already have, free, with the date it was checked. Records change over time, so for today's records tap Run a fresh check on the report. That uses 1 9ONE0 Check, and the new report replaces the old one. Reports are kept for 12 months, or until you remove one or run a fresh check. Save one to The Vault to keep it for good.

Will they know I looked them up?

No. We never contact them, and nothing is sent to them. Your 9ONE0 Checks are visible only to you, and to us in a scrambled form we can only read when looking into misuse.

What sources do you use?

A licensed public records provider (identity, phone, addresses and property, employment and business entities, criminal and sex offender registry records, marriage and divorce, and evictions) and CourtListener (federal court dockets only, not state courts). We don't include financial records such as bankruptcies, liens and judgments, or political donations. Sex offender registry records reach us through the criminal records search. NSOPW, the national registry website, has no way for services like ours to query it, so we don't list it as a source, and we never say the registry is clear on a check that didn't run.

Scoring

What do the colors mean?

Green means nothing concerning showed up in any part of the check that finished. Yellow means at least one thing showed up and none of it was serious: an internet (VoIP) phone line, an eviction, an open federal court case, or a criminal charge that was dismissed or ended in a not-guilty. Your report says which. Red comes from either of two things on its own: a sex offender registry listing, or a criminal record that lines up with their name, age and location and was not dismissed or found not guilty. A dismissed or not-guilty charge is shown and makes it yellow. Look any record up yourself before you act on it. A red is never averaged away by everything else coming back clean.

Can green be wrong?

Yes. Green means nothing concerning showed up in the records we could check. It isn't a promise about the person. Public records can be incomplete or out of date. Trust your instincts, and meet somewhere public.

What are the next steps in a report?

The last section of every report gives you 3 to 5 next steps in plain English: what to notice, what to watch for, and when to slow down. We write them the way a sharp, trusted friend would: honest, direct and on your side.

Membership and billing

What does membership include?

The Vault is free: a card for every person you're getting to know, your notes and flags, and 9ONE0 Wrapped. Monthly: $39 a month, 10 9ONE0 Checks a month. Annual: $349 a year, 10 9ONE0 Checks a month, 25% less than paying monthly. Founding: $199 a year for as long as you stay a member, 10 9ONE0 Checks a month, while founding places last (100 in total). Single: $19, one 9ONE0 Check, never expires. Membership checks reset each month on the day you joined and don't roll over. A single check you buy never expires.

How do I cancel?

In Settings, under Plan and billing, tap Cancel plan. Your membership stays active until the end of the period you've paid for, and you won't be charged again. We don't give partial refunds. Deleting your account cancels your membership right away, and any unused checks end with it.

Is my payment information secure?

All payments are processed by Stripe. We never see, store or handle your card number. Stripe is certified to PCI Service Provider Level 1.

Who 9ONE0 is for

Who can use 9ONE0?

9ONE0 is built for women, and open to anyone meeting someone new. You need to be 18 or older. The Vault is free; 9ONE0 Checks come with a membership or as a single $19 check.

Why start from a phone number?

A 9ONE0 Check starts from a number you already have: the one you were given. We don't search by name, email or address. From a report you ran, you can also tap a relative on the record to check them, which counts as one 9ONE0 Check, like any other.

Privacy and data

What data do you store about me?

Your email, plan and check count; your date of birth and personal flags if you set them; your safety contact if you add one, encrypted; everything you write in The Vault, encrypted under a key unique to you; each report you run, encrypted, for 12 months (or until you remove it or run a fresh check) so you can reopen it; and a scrambled code (not the number or name) of what you searched, in a log we read only to look into misuse. The full list is in our Privacy Policy.

What does the Exit button do?

It's for leaving 9ONE0 quickly, for example if someone walks up while you're here. Tap Exit at the top of the screen, or press the Shift key three times in a row. 9ONE0 closes right away and a different website opens in its place, so it looks like you were just browsing. For the next 10 minutes, pressing Back won't bring 9ONE0 up again: it takes you to that website instead. When you want to come back, type 9one0.com or open it from a link as usual, and you're still signed in. Quick exit can't erase your browser history: the pages you opened still show in the list. If someone else might look at your phone or computer, open 9ONE0 in a private or incognito window, which keeps no history once you close it.

Do you sell my data?

No. We don't sell your personal information or use it for advertising. See our Privacy Policy for the full picture.

How do I opt out?

If you'd rather not appear in 9ONE0, go to 9one0.com/opt-out and give your name, state and any phone numbers you want covered. We confirm it by email. After that, no report is built on you and you're left off our pick lists. We keep only scrambled codes of those details, not your email. To stop our optional emails instead, use the link in the email or write to info@9one0.com.

What can I use 9ONE0 for?

Your personal safety, before you meet someone. You can't use it for hiring, renting, lending or insurance decisions. 9ONE0 is not a consumer reporting agency under the FCRA. See our FCRA notice for details.
